Book Week 2024 at Ashcott Primary School

Book Week 2024 at Ashcott Primary School

It has been an exciting book week for the children at Ashcott Primary School with a wide range of book-related activities happening throughout the week.

At the start of the week, the children were visited by published children’s author, Emma Carroll. Emma shared some of her inspiration and ideas for her books such as ‘Secrets of a Sun King’, ‘The Girl Who Walked on Air’ and ‘Letters from the Lighthouse’, during an assembly with the whole school, before delivering ‘editing and redrafting’ workshops with each KS2 class throughout the morning.

Children from News Club (who produce the award-winning school newspaper, the Ashcott Compass) even had the chance to interview the published author and find out more about how she got into writing children’s books.

Children had the opportunity to visit the reading gazebo that had been set-up in the library for the week. Older children shared books with younger pupils and everyone was encouraged to take part in the school’s reading challenge competition to win a reading voucher.

On Wednesday, children from Year 6, known as ‘Reading Stars’, organised a book swap and managed to accumulate around 400 books for children across the school to choose from.

On Thursday 7th March, children came to school dressed as a character from a book for World Book Day. At the end of the day, children shared stories with their ‘buddies’ in their GEMS groups (houses/teams).

At the end of the week, parents and grandparents came in to school to read with their children and enjoy a book together.

The children and staff would like to thank Mrs Shore for all of her hard work in organising such an exciting book week!
