Street Neighbourhood Watch Association
Street Neighbourhood Watch Association
Street Neighbourhood Watch Association (SNWA) was founded in 2000 and is part of the national Neighbourhood Watch Association. It’s role is to support the local community in a number of ways including developing a close liaison between the community, police and parish council to identify matters that affect the safety and wellbeing of the Street community, as well as helping residents to protect themselves.
One very visible example of their effort to reduce unwelcome visitors to your house are the signs on lampposts stating that Street is a ‘No Cold Calling’ village, an initiative backed by Avon and Somerset Police and supported by Street Parish Council and recently added to at all entrance roads into Street. Window stickers are available for members to further discourage cold calls.
Street is fortunate to have a lower crime rate than some other areas of Somerset. Sadly this does not detract from the fact that burglary, vandalism, anti-social behaviour and other situations still occur. Residents are also exposed to the risks due to scamming, unwanted telephone calls and media adverts that can result in financial losses. Our organisation provides up-to-date information that warns and advises residents on these unwanted potential intrusions into your life through our Messaging Service and an active Facebook group.
We are also dedicated to generating a sense of community spirit in order to look out for each other, we can provide local contact details for residents to call in an emergency or at a time of concern. Advice is also available concerning personal safety and have access to a range of products including personal alarms that do offer a sense of security when out and about.
To expand our aim of providing an important community based service, we are currently establishing a voluntary, secure central record of member household names, addresses and contact details that will allow us to keep in touch more effectively.
Our system of operation is by appointing a Co-ordinator for each road in Street who will be a link to those who decide to join. The Annual Cost of joining is only £1 per household to be a member and cover our organising costs. Your wellbeing and security is our concern so we look forward to hearing from you.
Our aim is to give information and help to the Street Community so why not find out more about becoming a Coordinator or a member by contacting:- John Dodson: Telephone no. 01458 446535, email: john@johndodson.co.uk
